Hospitals should be categorized based on service quality: Minister Paudel

Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel has asserted that the hospitals should be mapped out based on their service quality.

In a discussion with the Health Ministry in the meeting of the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee under the National Assembly on Monday, Minister Paudel mentioned that hospitals should keep services smooth and also publicly disclose their service charge list.

He argued that the ministry has been effortful to advance specialized services in the preventive health sector. The Health Minister further said the ministry was making preparations to introduce the Drug Administration Act, Health Service Act and Hospital Development Committee Act.

‘We have been developing a plan keeping the 16th plan at the centre. Some of the initiatives earmarked in the budget are not fulfilled due to procedural complications,’ he mentioned.

Also speaking on the occasion, lawmaker Shrikrishna Prasad Adhikari emphasized the need to make health services accessible to all, stressing monitoring the services being provided by the hospitals.

Likewise, Padam Bahadur Pariyar pointed out the essence of alternative medical system and yoga while Renu Chand suggested systematizing Singhadurbar Vaidyakhana and creating incentives for the marketing of its products.

Secretary at the Ministry, Dr Roshan Pokharel said though population and diseases are increasing, the challenge of the present-day situation is not being able to produce and mobilize health-related human resources accordingly.
