New Year 2025 begins today

January 1, Kathmandu: Today marks the start of 2025 AD.

January 1 is celebrated worldwide as the first day of the Gregorian calendar, with fanfare and greetings exchanged among family members, relatives, friends, and colleagues.

Nepali people celebrate the Gregorian New Year, along with Baisakh 1 which is the official calendar and start of the Bikram Sambat New Year.

Places like Pokhara in Kaski district, Thamel, Jhamsikhel, Nagarkot, and Durbarmarg in Kathmandu Valley, and other places such as Kuringtar, Dhulikhel, and Sauraha see huge crowds today to mark the New Year. Celebrations also took place yesterday to mark New Year’s Eve.

The start of the New Year is also a time to reflect on the past and look forward to a prosperous year ahead.
