Freezing cold poses difficulty in garbage management

Manang: In the wake of decreasing temperature in the district, the management of garbage has been difficult.
Chame rural municipality of district headquarters informed that it could not collect garbage daily due to cold.

Officiating chief administrative officer at the rural municipality, Nama Narayan Malla, issued a notice that although the number of people staying in the district headquarters gradually declined with the onset of winter, resulting in decreased production of garbage, the local level could not manage it regularly.
The collection of waste has been halted till the issuance of the next notice, he added.

He also urged the people not to throw away waste on streets, riversides and other public places but to manage themselves.

The administrative facilities including police posts in the upper parts of Manang shifted downhill to continue service delivery, according to Chief District Officer, Matrika Acharya.

Two police posts and banking services of Narpabhumi have descended to district headquarters to avoid freezing cold in the mountainous region. Similarly, a police post located in the upper Manang has been shifted to lower elevation of Humde at Disyang rural municipality-4.

Most of the locals from higher belts have left their communities to ward off cold. Even those in the lower belt, Chame, are moving downward.

However, the government offices including security bodies are working from the district headquarters.
Water in local streams and taps is frozen.

Chief of District Hospital, Dr Divakar Koirala, informed that they were at work to ensure services to those staying in the headquarters.
