Dinanath Baral, Pokhara: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has directed Nepal Telecom to ensure the provision of 4G internet services to all households across Nepal by the end of this year.
Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Nepal Telecommunication Authority in Pokhara on Friday, which brought together telecommunication service providers and stakeholders, Minister Gurung discussed the current state of telecommunication services in Gandaki Province, future expansion plans, and the need to improve service quality.
During his address, Minister Gurung emphasized the importance of Nepal developing its own satellite infrastructure for national security, noting that many countries already possess their own satellites. He announced that the government will soon introduce laws and policies related to satellite development.
Further, Minister Gurung highlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in boosting Nepal’s productivity. He stressed the need for appropriate and optimal use of AI to enhance production across various sectors.
Recognizing the global advancements in AI, he affirmed that AI will be standardized in Nepal. Noting the absence of a national policy and regulation for AI, he stated that such a framework would be developed within the next month. Minister Gurung also shared plans to integrate AI with Nepal’s agriculture and production sectors, ensuring that the country maximizes the benefits of AI in government, banking, industry, and beyond.
On a separate issue, Minister Gurung reiterated the government’s firm stance against cooperative fraud, vowing that any political leaders or cadres convicted in relation to cooperative scams, based on the findings of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Cooperatives, would face strict legal action.
