Bagmati province’s Internal Affairs Minister pledges support for making Radio Nepal’s broadcasting more inclusive
Hetauda: Suraj Chandra Lamichhane, the Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Bagmati Province, has expressed his commitment to supporting Public Service Broadcasting, Radio Nepal in making its broadcasting more inclusive.
Speaking at an interaction program titled “Role of the Provincial Government in Broadcasting News and Programs in Mother Tongues” in Hetauda on Sunday, the capital of Bagmati Province, Minister Lamichhane pledged to provide full cooperation to enhance the inclusivity of Radio Nepal’s news and programmes.
He also expressed the provincial government’s readiness to collaborate with Radio Nepal in establishing a provincial office in the region.
Minister Lamichhane, who also serves as the Spokesperson of the provincial government, commended Radio Nepal’s efforts to uphold the values of multilingual, multicultural, and contextual broadcasting as outlined in Nepal’s constitution.
He reiterated that the provincial government would provide full cooperation to enhance the inclusivity of Radio Nepal’s programming.
During the event, Radio Nepal’s Executive Director, Amar Dhoj Lama, highlighted Radio Nepal’s ongoing initiatives to work closely with provincial and local governments to make its broadcasts more community-centred and inclusive.
He informed the gathering that preparations were underway to establish a regional office of Radio Nepal in Hetauda, with plans to implement it as soon as possible.
Deputy Executive Director Chandra Bhusan Lal Das welcomed the participants and set the tone for the discussions. Pushkar Raj Gautam, Director of Planning and Development, presented the action plans focusing on policies and management strategies for enhancing the inclusiveness of Radio Nepal’s broadcasts.
The interaction was attended by key officials, including the Secretaries and Chiefs of various divisions under Bagmati Province’s Ministry for Internal Affairs and Law, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, Ministry of Social Development, and Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Co-operatives.
Representatives from local caste federations, stakeholders, and the wider public also participated in the event.
All attendees expressed support for making Radio Nepal a trusted source of information for the public and emphasized the need for it to evolve and compete with newer media platforms.
The participants called for strengthening the organization’s role in promoting national unity and diversity through its inclusive programming.
The event was part of a broader initiative, with similar programs set to be held across all seven provinces of Nepal, starting from Gandaki Province’s Pokhara.
