New Act likely to promote Nepal’s film industry: Communications Minister Gurung

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has made it clear that the government won’t delay the amendment of the Act needed for developing and promoting the Nepali film industry.

At the 5th IAWRT Nepal Short Film Competition-2024 organized by the Nepal Chapter of the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) in Kathmandu on Saturday, Minister Gurung said that the ministry is working to introduce a new Act considering the importance of new Act and the limitations of the Motion Picture (Production, Exhibition, and Distribution) Act implemented since 2026 BS.

On the occasion, Minister Gurung, also the spokesperson of the government, said that film was a strong medium for interaction with the people.

He was of the view that Nepal should take benefit from the movies being developed here and we can ensure publicity of our tourism.

The ministry and Film Development Board are working for the development of this sector, Minister Gurung said.
The IAWRT is the umbrella organization of women journalists affiliated to radios and televisions.
