Four fatalities reported in Pakistan as security forces and protesters clash in Islamabad

Army deployed to control unrest in city’s Red Zone

Pakistan, November 26: Supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan clashed with security forces in Islamabad, leading to at least four deaths among the police and security personnel.

Thousands of former Prime Minister Khan’s supporters, from his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, defied a police lockdown, breaking through blockades and ignoring tear gas.

They are demanding Khan’s release ahead of a terrorism court hearing.

The violence occurred as protesters rammed a vehicle into security forces, and some reports suggest a civilian and a police officer were also killed.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the violence, calling it “extremism,” and warned of a harsh response.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi says the army has been deployed in the city’s Red Zone, where the protesters are heading.

More than 4,000 protesters have been arrested so far.
