No debt related agreements will be done during PM Oli’s upcoming China visit

Prime Minister Oli will embark on an official visit to China on December 2nd.

Kathmandu, 25th November: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has clarified that no debt-related agreements will be made during his official visit to China starting on the 2nd of December.

Prime Minister Oli emphasized this during a discussion with former prime ministers and foreign ministers in Singha Durbar today.

Likewise, PM Oli stated that the visit does not involve any talks about Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) funded projects and that discussions on borrowing loans from China are not a point of controversy.

PM Oli reiterated Nepal’s long-standing friendship with China and emphasized that the trip aims to enhance bilateral ties and friendly relations between the two nations.

Hence, PM Oli assured that there is no need to create unnecessary rumours about falling into a “debt trap’ as Nepal can seek loans or grants from any country or institution based on national interest.

Furthermore, PM Oli also stressed that Nepal’s sovereignty, independence, and international interests remain the country’s priority in all foreign dealings.

During the visit, discussions will focus on implementing past agreements, expanding transmission lines, and boosting exports to China.

Likewise, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba stated that preparations are underway for the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to China, with all agenda to be finalized soon.

The Foreign Minister also emphasized that the rumours about disagreements between the CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress regarding this matter are not true and baseless.

The meeting included former PMs, high-level dignitaries as well as former and present Foreign Ministers.

President of Nepali Congres, Sher Bahadur Deuba was not present in the meeting as he was out of Kathmandu valley.
