Mahottari voters complain about neglect of agriculture sector
Mahottari, Nov 24: Voters of Ramgopalpur-2 in Mahottari have expressed grief to leaders of various political parties regarding the abandonment of the agriculture sector by the state.
The leaders are on a door-to-door campaign seeking votes for the December 1 local-level by-elections. Farmers have complained to party leaders that the governments of all levels have not even tried to resolve their problems.
“More than 90 percent of the residents here are engaged in agriculture, but our fields do not have irrigation facilities, and we do not even get seeds and fertilizers on time,” says Mohammad Qadir Hussain, a farmer of the ward.
“We have shared the same with almost all the party leaders who have come to seek votes.” So far, Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma, CPN (Maoist Center) Senior Vice President Narayan Kaji Shrestha, CPN (UML) Politburo and Central Member, and Madhesh Province Committee officials have reached Mahottari to seek votes for their respective party candidates.
In response, the leaders have pledged to take the problems of farmers seriously. In the elections to be held in Ramgopalpur-2, 18 candidates, including seven party candidates and 11 independents, are contesting. There are 2,141 voters in this ward.
The by-election is being held to fill the post fallen vacant due to the death of then ward president Mukesh Kumar Yadav. —RSS
