Public holiday today to mourn demise of former speaker Daman Nath Dhungana

November 18, Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has declared a public holiday on Monday to mourn the passing of former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, announced that Dhungana would be cremated with state honours. The national flag will also be flown at half-mast across all government offices and Nepali embassies abroad.

Dhungana, 83, passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Kathmandu while undergoing treatment for a liver ailment.
