Parliamentary hearing for four ambassador nominees
September 2, Kathmandu: The parliamentary hearing committee on Sunday held a hearing to consider ambassadorial nominees for India, China, Germany, and Denmark.
The proposed nominees include Prof. Krishna Prasad Oli for China, Dr. Shankar Sharma for India, Dr. Shail Rupakheti for Germany, and Sumnima Tuladhar for Denmark. The cabinet had nominated 17 ambassadorial candidates for various countries in a meeting on July 29.
During the recent hearing, the four proposed ambassador nominees shared their experiences, thoughts, and concepts. They outlined their visions for enhancing bilateral relations between Nepal and the countries they are nominated for.
Dr. Sharma, the proposed ambassador to India, emphasized the unique friendship between Nepal and India due to open borders, shared cultures, economic interdependence, and people-to-people relations.
He highlighted India’s significant role as Nepal’s biggest trading partner, major source of tourists, sole supplier of petroleum products, and largest source of foreign investment.
Likewise, Prof. Dr. Oli, the proposed ambassador to China, emphasized the longstanding and close ties between Nepal and China, particularly in the areas of philosophy, Buddhism, knowledge, and historical visits. He presented an action plan aimed at further strengthening economic ties and cooperation between the two countries.
Dr. Shail Rupakheti, proposed ambassador to Germany, pledged to focus on economic diplomacy, high-level visits, and attracting investment to Nepal if approved. He also expressed commitment to securing permission for Nepal Airlines to operate direct flights between Nepal and Germany. Finally, Sumnima Tuladhar, proposed ambassador to Denmark, highlighted the continuous support Nepal receives from Denmark in its economic development due to the strong ties between the two countries.
