CJ Shrestha praises role of Nepal Bar Council
August 11, Kathmandu: Chief Justice (CJ) Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha has said that the role of the Nepal Bar Council was instrumental in strengthening the judiciary.
Addressing a programme here Sunday organized on the 31st anniversary of the Council, CJ Shrestha said that the Council’s roles can be vital in reforms of law education, capacity building, professional development, monitoring of integrity and discipline and other overall areas in this field.
Law professionals are the tools to establish relations between the court and society so the Council could become a bridge for this, the Chief Justice added. He viewed that the Council could be developed as a platform to hold dialogue on areas of reforms, public aspirations and other related issues.
Also speaking at the event, outgoing Attorney General Dr Dinmani Pokharel pressed for reforming the examination system to make the law profession more professional and dignified.
He lauded the practice of conducting training in specific areas. Similarly, Nepal Bar Association President Gopal Krishna Ghimire said that the Council has been devising a code of conduct and implementing it strictly to make law professional and dignified. Council’s member and senior advocate Dr Chandrakant Gyawali shed light on the Council’s activities.
He also commended the reform measures in the examination system for the Council’s exam and the launch of the Lawyers Academy. On the occasion, Chief Justice Shrestha launched a journal titled ‘Nepal Bar Council Journal 2023.
He also feted five senior advocates for working continuously for over 50 years in the law profession. Honoured advocates were Kamalraj Joshi, Kishore Kumar Adhikari, Amar Bahadur Pandey, Narayan Prasad Khatri and Ram Krishna Gautam.
Likewise, Chief Justice Shrestha awarded advocate Associate Professor Dr Newal Chadhaury for penning the best book in the last fiscal year.
Also feted in the programme were 10 best students securing the best scores in the 31st Bar Council’s exam.
