Confusion arose as NC, UML failed to make public pact: Maoist Centre Chief Whip

Kathmandu, July 12: Chief Whip of the CPN (Maoist Center) Hitraj Pandey has said that a confusion has been created as the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress and the then ruling coalition partner, CPN (UML) failed to make public the agreement said to have been reached between them for forming new government.

Taking part in the discussions on the proposal presented in a meeting of the House of Representatives today seeking a vote of confidence, the Maoist Centre Chief Whip charged the first largest party and the second largest party in the Parliament of not making the agreement public, which has put the citizens in confusion.

Stating that the present government had made initiatives towards maintaining good governance, increasing capital expenditure and production growth, he accused the Nepali Congress and the UML of misleading the people by not disclosing the agreement reached between them.

“They should have made the agreement reached between them before. The Nepali people cannot be put into confusion like this. Along with the agreement, the topic of constitution amendment has been made public. Why has not the details of the agreement said to be reached between the two parties not been made public,” the Maoist Centre Chief Whip questioned.

He argued that discussions should be held with all the parties for forging national consensus and one or two parties reaching an agreement on power sharing does not make a national consensus.

Chief Whip Pandey demanded that the sovereign Parliament and the people have the right to know about the said agreement, but the big parties have been hiding the same.

He alleged that the two big parties in the Parliament have changed the political power equation just as the present government started intensifying the good governance campaign by addressing the issues of public concern.

Noting that the risk of the nation heading towards regression has increased with the amendment to the constitution made on the base of the sacrifices and dedication of the people, the Maoist Centre Chief Whip warned of resistance from the parliament and the streets if the people’s rights were to be curtailed through constitution amendment.

Seconding the Prime       Minister regarding the works carried out by the present government, Pandey urged the MPs to vote in favour of the vote of confidence proposal tabled by the Prime Minister. He also called on all the parties to move forward by defending the constitution.
