Bharatpur Metropolis honors ten inter-caste couples
Chitwan: The Bharatpur Metropolitan City has honoured ten new inter-caste couples.

Mayor Renu Dahal and Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari jointly honoured the couples by providing Rs. 100 thousand each amid a programme on Sunday. Mayor Dahal said that the inter-caste couples were honoured as an incentive to end the ill practice of untouchability in society. She said despite the change in the system, social status was still conservative.
‘We need to end untouchability and other inhuman customs to build a civilized society,’ Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari said, respecting all castes is the need of the hour. Contribution from everyone is essential to create an environment where people from all castes enjoy equal treatment. On the occasion, Kamala Shrestha BK, who recently had an inter-caste marriage, suggested that the young generation could take the lead to end social ills.
BK said, ‘Society is on the path of change where youths can play a positive role.’ The social change however should stem from oneself, she underlined, adding that cooperation to this is required.
The Metropolis has adopted the policy of honouring inter-caste couples for the past four years. It is learnt that 23 such couples have been honoured to date.
