Finance Minister assures resolution of power line issues
January 2, Kathmandu: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has assured that the ongoing problem between the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and industries over dedicated feeder and trunk lines will soon be resolved. The Minister made this announcement while addressing a 10-day expo organized by the Morang Traders’ Association in Biratnagar on Monday.
Dr. Mahat stated that the resolution will be based on an agreement between the NEA and the industries. He also shared the government’s policy of restructuring foreign aid to ensure it is directed towards essential and profitable sectors.
Looking ahead, the Minister revealed plans for an international investment summit scheduled for April. The government’s policy, he said, is focused on modernizing sectors such as hydro power, information technology, tourism, and agriculture.
In a move to revive struggling industries, Dr Mahat announced that the upcoming Privatization Committee meeting will decide on their cooperation with private sector participation, while land ownership will remain with the State.
