September 13, Kathmandu: In a historic diplomatic exchange, Israel has presented a speech by BP Koirala, a seminal figure in Nepal’s democratic movement and the country’s first elected prime minister, to President Ram Chandra Paudel.
The Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Hanan Goder, presented the historic document to the President on Tuesday.
The speech, delivered at the ‘International Conference on the Role of Science in the Advancement of New States’ in 1960, was unearthed after extensive research led by Ambassador Goder.
This speech was made in the same year between Nepal and Israel, a relationship that was initiated by Koirala himself.
According to Ambassador Goder, the document provides insight into Koirala’s perspective on the interplay between democracy and economic development in third-world countries.
Receiving the document, President Paudel expressed his gratitude to Israel and wished for the strengthening of Nepal-Israel relations.
