Koshi Province CM Uddhav Thapa relieved from office

Kathmandu: Koshi Province Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa has been relieved of his post.

The Supreme Court dismissed Chief Minister Thapa from office today and ordered the province chief to form a new government within 48 hours.

The full bench of justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Chudal and Nahkul Subedi issued a mandamus order to appoint parliamentary party leader of CPN (UML) Hikmat Kumar Karki as the new chief minister. CPN (UML) is the largest party in Koshi Province.

Chief Minister Thapa has been dismissed by the Supreme Court for taking a vote of confidence along with the vote of Israil Ansari who was chairing the province assembly.
