Seven killed in bus accident in Bara

August 24, Kathmandu: Seven people died when a bus carrying pilgrims including from India met with an accident near the Churiyamai temple of Jitpur Simara sub-metropolis-22 in Bara on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the bus en route to Janakpur from Kathmandu veered off the road and fell around 15 meters at 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Three died on the spot while four succumbed to injuries in the course of the treatment, District Police, Bara’s spokesperson Dadhiram Neupane said.

The injured are being treated in various health facilities in Hetauda. The bus was carrying a total of 26 passengers, most of them from India.

Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, it appears that the accident was caused due to overspeeding.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained. The bus driver has been taken into custody.
