Nation-wide folk song competition organized to raise awareness about corruption control
Kathmandu: A nationwide folk song competition has been organized on the premises of Radio Nepal with the aim of raising awareness on corruption control, good governance and morals.

The competition was organized in collaboration with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and Radio Nepal on Friday on the occasion of the 32nd foundation day of the CIAA.

Among the 76 contestants who participated in the competition, 15 were selected and a live competition was held among them today on the premises of Radio Nepal.

In the program, CIAA commissioner Dr. Hari Paudel said as folk songs raise the voice of the common people, the commission organized the folk song competition related to corruption control as part of the promotional measures to control corruption.

Commissioner Dr. Paudel stated that the awareness programs would create awareness among the people and expressed his belief that such competitions would help in promoting good governance and morals.

Also speaking on the occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Chairman of the Radio Broadcasting Service Development Committee (Radio Nepal) Steering Committee Dr. Baikuntha Aryal hoped that the program would play an important role in spreading public awareness about corruption control through folk songs.

Likewise, Executive Director of Radio Nepal Buddhi Bahadur KC said that Radio Nepal had given priority to Nepali songs and music since its inception. He added that Radio Nepal is ready to collaborate with the CIAA in the future as well.
In the competition, lyricist Ramji Thapa’s song entitled ‘Hosiyar Khabardar’ (Beware) was awarded the first prize with a purse of one hundred thousand rupees and certificates.

The song was sung by the team of Bhanu Bhakta Oli, Pasang Doma Sherpa, Anju Gautam, Keshav Adhikari and Lila Bahadur Shrestha.
Similarly, Khadga Gandharva’s composition ‘ Bhrastachar Niyentran (Corruption Control) was placed in the second position. Karuna Gandharva and and Smriti Shahi sang the song. The prize was 50 thousand along with certificates.
Nishchal Gurung of Gorkha and Tek Nath Diyali of Ilam received the third and consolation prize respectively. The third prize carried a purse of 25 thousand while the consolation prize was 10 thousand along with certificates.
