CPN Maoist Centre’s Dhital elected Speaker of Gandaki Province Assembly

Gandaki: Krishna Prasad Dhital of CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected the Speaker of Gandaki Province Assembly.
Elected from Gorkha constituency 1(A) as a province assembly member under the first past post system, Dhital was elected as the speaker of Gandaki Province.
A total of 32 province assembly lawmakers cast votes in his favour while 26 cast against his favour.
A total of 58 lawmakers were present in today’s voting process.
Senior most member of the assembly Mitra Lal Basyal said the province assembly meeting held today elected Dhital as the speaker. Nepali Congress’s Saraswati Aryal had also filed her candidacy for the post of speaker.
Dhital was proposed by Phanindra Devkota and supported by Roshan Bahadur Gahathapa on behalf of ruling alliance.
The ruling alliance of CPN UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) had however already made an agreement that UML would get Chief Minister and Maoist Centre the Speaker.
As per the agreement, UML parliamentary party leader Khagraj Adhikari has become Chief Minister and even secured the vote of confidence.
Among 60 members in Province Assembly, Nepali Congress has 27, CPN UML 22, Maoist Centre eight, RPP two and independent one.
