Maghi Festival to be celebrated for two days at Tundikhel this year

January 14, Kathmandu: The Maghi Festival which is the national festival of the Tharu community is going to be organised at Tundikhel on Saturday and Sunday this year. Twenty-four organisations with the coordination of the Tharu Welfare Assembly Central Committee are organising the two-day festival.
Tharu cultural processions, handicrafts, traditional goods, book exhibitions and motorcycle rallies will be held as part of the Maghi festival.
Similarly, various individuals for their special contributions in different sectors would be honoured in the festival.
The coordinator of the main organising committee, Premi Lal Chaudhary, said special food items prepared in the Maghi festival—dhikri, khichari, ghongi, sakkarkhanda — as well as other Tharu food would be kept in the festival.
Various dances like maghauta, sakhiya, jhumra, chhokra, ragani hori will be performed on the occasion. The motorcycle rally would be organised from Koteshwor to Bhrikutimandap on Saturday. Similarly, a programme will be held at Basantapur on January 15.
