He affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the quality, reliability, and robustness of services alongside the expansion of internet access.

“The objective of digital transformation is more than digitization drive. It had direct bearing on improvement of citizens’ lives,” the Minister said, stressing that citizens should be able to receive reliable and high-quality services whenever required.

Reliable networks for businesses, continuous communication for public services and functional communication systems even during disasters gained further relevance, according to him. He reminded that the glacial disaster that struck Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems has further showed urgency of robust communication infrastructures.

Communication facilities are instrumental when roads and other physical structures are damaged and communities are cut off from one another.

Moreover, the Minister viewed digital technology created opportunities for students in rural areas to access knowledge from across the globe; for farmers to obtain market and weather-related information; and for small entrepreneurs to expand markets beyond boundaries.

“The government focuses on development of digital inclusivity, cybersecurity, reliability and disaster-resilient communication systems in addition to expansion of digital access,” he shared during the event.

RSS

Kathmandu: Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has said the government had prioritized digital transformation with the expansion of quality and reliable internet services in rural, remote and mountainous areas.
