beyond conventional water stress and into &#8220;water bankruptcy.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Delivering a keynote address during a dialogue on Himalayan water security hosted jointly by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Kathmandu on Thursday, Ambassador Al Shamsi stressed that water security is directly linked to Nepal&#8217;s economic growth, food security, and social inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> He emphasized that building durable, climate-resilient hydropower infrastructure and implementing climate-adaptive irrigation systems are necessary investments for national economic sovereignty and the protection of vulnerable mountain communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing parallels between the UAE&#8217;s experience as a desert nation and Nepal&#8217;s seasonal water challenges, Ambassador Al Shamsi reaffirmed the UAE&#8217;s commitment to water diplomacy and shared technical expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> He formally invited Nepal to champion its priorities\u2014including mountain water security, glacial lake risk management, and climate-smart agriculture\u2014at the upcoming UN Water Conference 2026, which the UAE will co-host with Senegal in Abu Dhabi from Dec. 8\u201310.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu: United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to Nepal Abdulla Al Shamsi highlighted the severe climate challenges facing the Himalayan region, noting that glacial retreat, erratic monsoons, and glacial lake outburst floods are pushing parts of the &#8220;Third Pole&#8221;
