Kathmandu:<\/strong> The Purbanchal University (PU) has approved a budget of Rs 1.99 billion for the current fiscal year 2083\/84 BS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University’s 43rd Senate held today at the Ministry of Education in Singha Durbar under the Chairmanship of Minister for Education and Sports and University Pro-Chancellor Sasmit Pokharel unanimously passed the income-expenditure statement and the policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The budget and policies, and programmes were presented by Registrar Prof Dr Panna Bahadur Thapa before the Senate. Educational transformation, technology-friendly infrastructure and expansion of medical education have been set at top priorities of the University for the current fiscal year. According to the University, an integrated physical structure will be developed in its 805 bigha of land based in Gothgaun of Morang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, the University has introduced a plan for developing new and specialized curriculum for artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and cyber security and so on. It has pursued a policy of developing a specialized curriculum towards medical science and engineering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It aims to operate administrative and educational services through an integrated digital ecosystem, making service delivery accessible, transparent and technology-friendly. Towards medical education, it aims to conclude the under-construction 100-bed Matrishishu Hospital in Gothgaun, enhancing the quality of medical education in collaboration with the Koshi Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the Senate, the Education Minister, also the University Pro-Chancellor, stressed the need to transfer the higher education system as per the changing technology and demand of globalization. He was of the view of not limiting University graduates in just the pursuit of employment, making them capable of exploring entrepreneurship and creating employment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister also instructed to formulate clear action plans and set goals and deadline for the effective implementation of policies and programmes. Secretary at the Education Ministry, Chudamani Paudel, advised the University to focus on reform in educational system by ensuring effective implementation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Ghanashyam Upadhyay termed the University budget and programmes and policies positive. Education Minister’s Chief Advisor Shailendra Jha, vice-chancellors of various universities and senior officials from the Ministry were present in the meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University has also introduced programmes to establish a special research center relating to climate change and disaster risk reduction, implement programmes of joint degree and students’ exchange with foreign universities and expand inclusive scholarship schemes targeting excluded communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Senate also decided to nominate Dean Prof Dr Paricha Upadhyay Dhungel (Faculty of Medicine), Dean Prof Dr Krishna Prasad Pandey (Faculty of Art, Law and Education), and Prof Mohan Bahadur Basnet (School of Management), Birtanagar in the PU Executive Council for a three-year term each. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University aims to develop itself as a quality, competitive, research-based, IT-friendly and self-sufficient academic institution through its policies, programmes and the budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
