Kathmandu: <\/strong>Prime Minister Balendra Shah has returned home today after attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister was received by Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, Minister for Home Affairs Sudhan Gurung and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Khadak Raj Paudel at Tribhuvan International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PM Shah left here for New York on September 22, leading a Nepali delegation to participate in the High-level Week of the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister’s entourage included Foreign Affairs Minister Shisir Khanal, the prime minister’s chief political advisor Kumar Byanjankar, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, among other officials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Khanal, who had left for New York even before Prime Minister Shah, has been participating in various programmes under the United Nations General Assembly, according to the Foreign Minister’s Secretariat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Shah had addressed the General Assembly on Friday, in which he emphasized that ‘climate justice’ should not be limited to just beautiful phrase in UN documents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that instead of repeatedly involving the people of our country in rebuilding the past, they should be given the opportunity to create their own future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion, he informed the UN General Assembly about the damage to life and property caused by the flood in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26, noting that the disaster was not just a local tragedy but also a warning for the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, PM Shah mentioned that climate change does not recognize geographical boundaries and that ‘glaciers and floods do not travel with a ‘visa’ in their ‘passport’. He also proposed establishing the ‘Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism’ under the leadership of Nepal, India, and China. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the visit, Prime Minister Shah met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday. During the meeting, Secretary-General Guterres expressed his condolences for the loss of life and property in the Bhotekoshi disaster and stated that the United Nations stands in solidarity with Nepal on climate issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, Prime Minister Shah thanked Secretary-General Guterres for his goodwill towards Nepal and congratulated him on a successful tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
