Kathmandu, Sept. 25:<\/strong> Rainfall is expected to intensify in the western parts of Nepal over the next two days as a low-pressure system over India gradually moves towards the country, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meteorologist Rajan Lamichhane said the low-pressure system currently located over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas of India is moving westward towards Nepal, with its influence expected to increase in the western region from Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was recorded at several locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, while some areas experienced very heavy rainfall. More than 140 millimetres of rain was recorded at the Archale weather station in Palpa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Lamichhane, continuous rainfall over the past two days has increased the risk of floods, landslides and inundation, particularly in areas receiving heavy to very heavy rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rainfall activity is expected to remain significant today and Saturday, particularly in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Meanwhile, rainfall is likely to gradually decrease in the eastern parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The meteorological department said the low-pressure system is expected to shift further westward by Saturday, potentially bringing increased rainfall to Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Although weather conditions in eastern Nepal are expected to improve from Sunday, September 27, the western region may continue to experience the effects of the weather system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The department has forecast a gradual improvement in weather conditions across the country from September 28, with rainfall activity expected to decline further from the following day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meteorologist Lamichhane said the weather system remains dynamic and the department is closely monitoring its movement.
