Lalitpur: <\/strong>Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mahabir Pun and China’s Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, visited the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) at Khumaltar to observe the work being done by Chinese ‘DNA’ and ‘forensic’ identification experts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the inspection, Minister Pun suggested providing comfort and assistance to families affected by the disaster and making ‘DNA’ and ‘forensic’ tests more effective. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“DNA testing is a very important way to inform families who have lost their relatives and loved ones about the condition of their missing or dead loved ones, and I want to thank the experts involved in the testing for their hard work,” he said and urged speeding up the DNA tests being conducted to identify those who lost their lives or went missing due to floods and disasters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Pun mentioned that since the process of safely sending samples from collection to the lab is a sensitive matter, a large number of samples haven’t been received, and they will try to provide results of samples as quickly as possible whenever feasible. He said that Nepal Police’s DNA testing lab has a large capacity, while the capacity of other police and national forensic labs is relatively limited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

China’s ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, praised the work of Chinese experts in Nepal involved in post-disaster rescue, relief, and identifying affected individuals, and said that China will continue to provide every possible support to help Nepal get through the problems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanking the Chinese experts who have been continuously working in Nepal for more than three weeks, Ambassador Maoming expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, NAST, and the relevant Nepali agencies for their support and facilitation of the experts’ work. He expressed special thanks for the support provided to set up a laboratory for Chinese experts to help in reducing post-disaster impacts and rescue work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chinese forensic experts are working with the Nepali team to carry out DNA testing and victim identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, they had gathered information from Chinese experts and the Nepali technical team about the progress of DNA and forensic identification work, the technologies being used, and cooperation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
