Bhadrapur, Jhapa \u2014 Sept. 21:<\/strong> A vaccination campaign against Japanese Encephalitis (JE), commonly known as brain fever, has begun in Jhapa, targeting more than 485,000 people aged 30 and above across all 15 local levels of the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The campaign will run from September 21 to October 1, according to the Health Office, Jhapa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The office has arranged around 570,000 doses of the JE vaccine and established 900 vaccination centres across 131 wards. Around 500 health workers, 611 female community health volunteers and more than 3,000 community volunteers have been mobilised for the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Health Office Jhapa Director Brij Kumar Das said special precautions have been adopted for the campaign in view of the increasing number of JE infections and deaths in the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the Health Office, 13 people have contracted Japanese Encephalitis in Jhapa so far, seven of whom have died. None of those who died had received the JE vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Das said preparations had been completed in coordination with local governments and health institutions to ensure that all eligible people receive the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He urged people in the target age group to participate in the campaign, saying the vaccine is safe and effective in preventing the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, pregnant women and people with a history of severe allergic reactions to previous vaccines or severe allergies to any component of the vaccine have been advised not to receive the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n People currently suffering from fever can receive the vaccine after they have fully recovered, according to the Health Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Japanese Encephalitis is a viral disease transmitted mainly through the bites of infected Culex mosquitoes.
