Kathmandu, Sept 11: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Tosima Karki has demanded the government to provide free health services not just for giving birth but for all aspects of safe motherhood under the maternal protection programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives today after seeking time from the Speaker, MP Karki drew the government’s attention to the incident where the Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Saptari reportedly neglected pregnant Babita Kumari Paswan and she was compelled to give birth on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lawmaker Karki said that the hospital should have immediately admitted the woman who came there amidst labor pain. She demanded that such incidents should not happen again and that the hospital should investigate and take action against the inhumane treatment meted out to Babita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Karki also said that the ‘No Denial in Labor’ policy should be implemented in hospitals immediately. She mentioned that the ‘Free Delivery’ programme under the maternal safety programme should not be limited to just helping deliver babies, but the state should provide free maternal safety services throughout the whole process from pregnancy to childbirth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lawmakers have said that the state should implement the Mother Safety Programme, which provides free services, with special responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nepali Congress MP Geeta Gurung and CPN-UML MP Bhumika Limbu Subba said that safe motherhood is the responsibility of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Similarly, speaking in the meeting after seeking time from the Speaker, Nepali Congress MPs Renuka Kaucha and Jayapati Rokaya drew the government’s attention to the rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and livelihood of those affected by the Bhotekoshi flood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
RSP MP Rajan Gautam drew the government’s attention to reduce disaster risks. He pointed out to the government about smoke coming from the Dhaubadi iron mine area in Hupsekot Rural Municipality-5, Nawalpur, urging the government to be aware of potential risks to the settlements close to the mine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
