Kathmandu: <\/strong>President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Rabi Lamichhane has called for national and international unity to seek climate justice, arguing that disasters should not be viewed through the traditional lens of ruling and opposition politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Lamichhane said the devastating Bhotekoshi flood had brought people together on the basis of humanity and national unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed confidence that the country could overcome the crisis and move towards a better future by drawing lessons from the disaster and responding with wisdom and humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public grievances should be treated with sensitivity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamichhane said the government was working continuously to carry out search and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said it was understandable for families who had lost their loved ones to express anger and frustration towards the government and state authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamichhane urged all concerned not to make insensitive comments on social media against people expressing such grievances while dealing with the loss of family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also said legal action should be taken against anyone found involved in making inappropriate remarks against disaster victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calls for constructive approach to disaster management<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamichhane urged the government to take on board constructive suggestions put forward by the opposition for disaster management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also appealed to political parties and leaders not to engage in political disputes or seek political gains in the name of disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, disaster management should be approached as a matter of national responsibility rather than partisan politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nepal should raise its voice for climate justice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamichhane said people affected by climate-related disasters are victims of climate injustice, arguing that the communities suffering the consequences of the climate crisis are not necessarily responsible for causing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to the heavy loss of life in the Bhotekoshi disaster, he called for Nepal to demand greater climate justice from the international community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Nepal should build international solidarity and seek recognition and support for the disproportionate impacts of the global climate crisis faced by vulnerable countries such as Nepal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Praise for rescue and relief efforts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamichhane praised security personnel and rescuers involved in search and rescue operations following the Bhotekoshi flood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also appreciated the assistance provided by friendly countries and the contribution of the private sector, media and non-resident Nepali community during the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called for continued cooperation among the government, political parties, security agencies, civil society and other sectors to support affected communities and strengthen disaster preparedness and response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to neighbouring and friendly countries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamichhane also expressed gratitude to neighbouring countries, friendly nations and the wider international community for extending support to Nepal during the disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
