Kathmandu: An oil-lamp lighting ceremony was held at Pashupatinath Temple on Monday to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in floods, landslides, and natural disasters across the country, including the flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lamp lighting ceremony was organized by Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PADT Member-Secretary, Tirtha Shrestha, informed RSS that butter lamps were lit this evening in front of the Pashupatinath Temple to pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul and to express deep condolences to the bereaved family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that prayers were also offered during the lamp lighting for the speedy recovery of those injured in the flood and for those missing to be found quickly. Thousands of devotees participated in the lamp lighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the morning, various hymns from religious texts were also recited and read along the Bagmati riverbank at Pashupatinath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the occasion, Vedic Brahmins offered prayers, reciting from various scriptures, wishing peace for the souls of all known and unknown people who died in the flood that occurred in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Swami Dr. Rudrananda Brahmachari, the successor of the Bhagwat Sannyas Ashram at the Pashupatinath Sri Ramchandra Temple, coordinated the prayer programme, which included a recitation ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event also saw the participation of Brahmin students from Nepal Veda Vidyashram and Sanskrit Secondary School in Ranipokhari, along with preachers and members from various religious organizations.
