On the occasion, government offices across the country and Nepali diplomatic missions abroad are flying the national flag at half-mast as a mark of respect and solidarity with the victims and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The catastrophic flash floods and landslides in the Bhotekoshi river basin and other northern districts caused extensive loss of life and property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the latest police figures, 1,342 bodies have been recovered so far, while 3,992 people remain unaccounted for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the recovered bodies, 530 are men and 328 are women, while 495 bodies are yet to be identified due to their condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police spokesperson Abhi Narayan Kafle said 2,827 men and 567 women from local communities remain uncontacted. Among foreign nationals, 267 men and 239 women are still unaccounted for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Search, rescue, relief and identification operations are continuing in the affected areas. Of the bodies recovered so far, 1,444 have been buried, while efforts are underway to identify and properly manage the remaining bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 9,159 people have been rescued from the flood-affected areas, with 3,190 currently staying at a holding centre, according to spokesperson Kafle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities have prioritized DNA testing to identify missing persons and unidentified bodies. Police have so far collected DNA samples from 2,376 people, including 1,181 deceased persons and 1,195 relatives of victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personnel from the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police, along with other government agencies, continue to carry out search, rescue, identification and recovery operations in the affected areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu, Sept. 7: Nepal is observing a national day of mourning today in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa on August 26.
