Kathmandu: Followers of the Vedic Sanatana faith are celebrating the ‘Shree Krishna Janmashtami’ festival across the country today with reverence and devotion, offering worship to Lord Shree Krishna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since Lord Krishna\u2014the proponent of Gyana Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga\u2014was born at midnight on the eighth day of the dark fortnight of Bhadra during the Dwapara Yuga, this day is known as \u2018Shree Krishna Janmashtami\u2019 and the night as \u2018Moharatri\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On this day, religious discourses and devotional singing (bhajan-kirtan) dedicated to Lord Krishna are performed at temples across the country. The devotees also observe a fast and keep an all-night vigil on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Born as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu to protect humanity from injustice, oppression, and demonic tendencies, Shree Krishna championed the cause of truth throughout his life and inspired mankind to engage in righteous deeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ‘Shreemad Bhagavad Gita’, believed to be the precepts uttered by Lord Krishna himself while imparting teachings to Arjuna, one of the five Pandava brothers, during the battle against the Kauravas at Kurukshetra, is revered as a sacred scripture. Known simply as the ‘Gita’, this text is believed to be the most translated work in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is mentioned in the Hindu scriptures, the Puranas, that Shree Krishna, who displayed His extraordinary divine actions from childhood, destroyed beings of demonic nature such as Putana, Kamsa, Jarasandha, and Shishupala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the occasion of Shree Krishna Janmashtami, a large fair is held today at the famous Krishna Mandir in Mangalbazar, Patan. Similarly, crowds of devotees gather at Navatan Dham, located in Kageshwari-Manohara Municipality in the northeastern part of the capital. Crowds of devotees also flock to various Krishna temples across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is also a tradition of various religious organisations in Kathmandu organising cultural processions and chariot parades featuring tableaux depicting Lord Krishna. The government has declared a public holiday today to mark the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Paudel extends greetings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the teachings of Lord Shree Krishna remain equally relevant and useful today. Extending best wishes on the occasion of the Shree Krishna Janmashtami festival, he has wished for happiness, peace, and good health to one and all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Paudel noted that this festival is celebrated by worshipping Lord Krishna\u2014who imparts valuable messages regarding ‘dharma’ (righteousness), ‘karma’ (action), love, ethics, and knowledge essential for human life\u2014by those who contribute to the preservation and promotion of the Sanatana Dharma and culture across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Paudel has stated that the messages of Lord Krishna\u2014emphasising selfless action, steadfast adherence to truth, justice, and righteousness, a pure mind, conduct marked by self-sacrifice and unwavering commitment to duty\u2014remain equally relevant and useful today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Head of the State has expressed the belief that the Shree Krishna Janmastami festival helps foster mutual harmony and inspire humanity toward virtuous deeds, while binding Nepali society\u2014characterised by its multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multi-cultural nature\u2014together through the bond of emotional unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He has expressed the hope that the Shree Krishna Janmashtami festival inspires the building of a civilised and cultured society by fostering mutual harmony, compassion, the spirit of action, ‘Karma’, ‘Yoga’, and a sense of friendship.
