Bhadrapur, July 28:<\/strong> Authorities, political leaders, security officials and representatives of various religious communities in Jhapa have called for greater cooperation and vigilance to preserve religious harmony following the recent incident in neighboring Sunsari district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A meeting convened by the District Administration Office at the District Coordination Committee brought together local representatives, leaders of religious organizations, political parties, security agencies and civil society to discuss measures to prevent communal tensions and strengthen social cohesion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal described the Sunsari incident as unfortunate and said the discussion focused on ensuring that similar incidents do not occur in Jhapa. He stressed the importance of maintaining continuous dialogue among religious communities and strengthening coordination with all 15 local governments in the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Religious diversity is our shared strength. Social harmony can only be sustained through goodwill, tolerance and mutual trust,” Gelal said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Representatives of different religious communities echoed the call for unity. Raj Kumar Rai, chair of the Inter-Religious Network, said the organization has consistently worked to promote peaceful coexistence and communal harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mohammad Rafi, chair of the Muslim Society Development Committee, emphasized the need to strengthen mutual respect, dialogue and cooperation among all communities to maintain lasting peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Former lawmaker and Nepali Congress Jhapa President Deuman Thebe said regular meetings among religious groups would help build trust and prevent misunderstandings. He also stressed the need for timely intervention by the local administration whenever tensions arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kamal Rural Municipality Vice-Chair Pramila Neupane highlighted the constitutional right to religious freedom and urged political parties to play a constructive role in resolving religious disputes through dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n District Police Office Chief Basundhara Khadka said Jhapa has no history of religious conflict and credited the district’s peaceful environment to close coordination among security agencies, local governments, political parties and communities.
