{"id":431199,"date":"2026-06-12T20:21:58","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T14:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/radionepalonline.com\/en\/?p=431199"},"modified":"2026-06-12T20:21:59","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T14:36:59","slug":"sc-seeks-prohibition-of-child-soldiers-by-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radionepalonline.com\/en\/2026\/06\/12\/431199.html","title":{"rendered":"SC seeks prohibition of child soldiers by law"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Kathmandu:<\/strong> The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a directive order, calling for the enactment of laws related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to explicitly address the use of child soldiers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/radionepalonline.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/supreme-court.jpg\" alt=\"The Supreme Court has issued a mandamus order, asking the government to conclude the long-pending transitional justice by speeding up investigations into the complaints over conflict-era cases.\" class=\"wp-image-429087\" srcset=\"https:\/\/radionepalonline.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/supreme-court.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/radionepalonline.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/supreme-court-300x133.jpg 300w, https:\/\/radionepalonline.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/supreme-court-768x341.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A full bench of judges Sapana Pradhan Malla, Sunil Kumar Pokhrel and Shanti Singh Thapa assessed that the third amendment to the TRC Act had excluded the use of child soldiers in the definition of a severe violation of human rights, directing that the matter be explicitly included in the law. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bench reached the conclusion that the State is responsible for enacting laws that categorically prohibit the recruitment or use of children under 18 in any military forces and recognising such acts as punishable offences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A directive order has been issued accordingly to the concerned government bodies, asking them to take prompt response towards that end.&#8221; The petition to this end was filed by Lenin Bista, a former child soldier during the armed conflict. The order further states that those child combatants who were not included in the army integration process were initially given Rs 10,000 each and promised Rs 200, 000 in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, not all were given the promised amount, the order said.
