Kathmandu, May 15:<\/strong> Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has said that preparations are underway to develop the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat into a more powerful and authority-driven institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During an inspection visit to the Secretariat in Pulchowk on Thursday, Minister Shrestha said the government was accelerating preparations to introduce a new umbrella law related to water resources in line with the federal structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the proposed \u201cWater Resources Bill-2083\/2026\u201d aims to ensure the conservation, multi-dimensional use and proper development of water resources, while also strengthening the Commission as a key institution in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister said the Commission was being developed as a principal body responsible for regulation of water resources, policy coordination and long-term planning, and directed officials to make necessary preparations accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stating that the ministry was expanding the Commission\u2019s existing jurisdiction and assigning additional responsibilities, he said special priority was also being given in budget allocation. He stressed that the Commission should become more active in mobilizing and managing human resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Shrestha further said the Commission should conduct internal audits on matters under its jurisdiction and prioritize study and research activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also underlined that the Commission should guide the government in policy formulation, studies and development related to water resources, and publish its research findings regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion, Secretary at the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat Dinanath Mishra briefed the Minister about the overall status, activities and future plans of the Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, Water Resources Secretary Sarita Kumari Dawadi highlighted issues related to manpower and resource management at the Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
