May 6, Kathmandu:<\/strong> The European Union has reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with Nepal, with Ambassador V\u00e9ronique Lorenzo emphasising that its engagement goes beyond government to include strong support for civil society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur relationship is not exclusive with government\u2026 an integral part is our trust and friendship with civil society,\u201d Ambassador Lorenzo said at a grant award event in Kathmandu on Wednesday, highlighting the EU\u2019s continued commitment to youth and civic actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marking over five decades of cooperation with Nepal, she described the latest support as one of the largest allocations to civil society during her tenure<\/strong>, with the EU awarding 11 grants<\/strong> to organisations across multiple sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiatives span youth-focused digital innovation, inclusive sports for persons with disabilities, cultural engagement, and programmes aimed at strengthening political participation among youth, women, persons with disabilities and LGBTQI+ communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador Lorenzo also underlined that the projects are designed not just around \u201cempowerment and voices\u201d but also around creating real opportunities<\/strong>, particularly employment for young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur agenda is jobs and growth, with values,\u201d she said, adding that democracy, human rights and the rule of law remain central to the EU\u2019s engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to Nepal\u2019s recent political developments, she noted that the country is at a \u201cunique opportunity\u201d following recent changes, with both government and civil society playing a role in shaping a more prosperous and accountable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reiterating long-term commitment, Ambassador Lorenzo said the EU would continue to stand with Nepal \u201cfor Nepali citizens, for Nepali youth,\u201d emphasising inclusive development and sustained partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
