Kathmandu, March 28: The Nepali Congress (NC) has criticised the government for what it called \u201cselective treatment\u201d in recent arrests, including those of CPN (UML) Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and NC leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement issued on Saturday, party spokesperson Devraj Chalise said the Congress has consistently called for an impartial investigation into the incidents of September 8 and 9, 2025, and action against those found guilty in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The party recalled its earlier demands for a high-level probe into the suppression on September 8 and the destruction on September 9, stressing that its position has remained unchanged. It also reiterated its call for the government to immediately make public the report submitted by the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led inquiry commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NC stated that while the government formed a study committee regarding the security apparatus, it has moved ahead with implementing the commission\u2019s recommendations in other cases, leading to arrests. This, the party said, reflects a \u201cselective approach\u201d in dealing with the same incidents and reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Congress further warned that accountability must be ensured through due legal process, cautioning that hasty or emotionally driven decisions could weaken the rule of law and risk pushing the country towards instability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, senior leader Purna Bahadur Khadka, issuing a separate statement as Acting President, objected to the arrests and said they would be challenged through constitutional, legal and political means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Similarly, the party\u2019s youth wing, Nepal Tarun Dal, termed the arrests of Oli and Lekhak as \u201cpolitically motivated\u201d and \u201cprejudiced,\u201d warning that such actions could undermine democratic values and create unnecessary tensions in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
