May 6, Kathmandu:<\/strong> Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav met with Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Shmulik Bass, on Tuesday at the Vice President\u2019s Office in Lainchaur. The meeting focused on enhancing Nepal-Israel bilateral relations, with discussions on cooperation in agriculture, labour, trade, tourism, and investment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

VP Yadav noted the strong friendship and cooperative ties between Nepal and Israel since diplomatic relations began in 1960. He highlighted existing agreements and others in progress, emphasising the need for their effective implementation. \u201cThere are significant opportunities for collaboration in economic, trade, tourism, and investment sectors,\u201d he said, stressing mutual benefits from exploring these areas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Vice President asked about the welfare of around 4,500 Nepali workers in Israel, including many women, urging Israel to ensure their salaries, insurance, and leave benefits.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He thanked Israel for its 11-month \u201cLearn and Earn\u201d program, which allows Nepali students to gain agricultural skills, learn advanced technologies, and earn income.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He also expressed sorrow over Nepali students killed in the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack and the unknown status of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student, who was abducted by Hamas. Yadav urged Israel to prioritise efforts to ensure Joshi\u2019s safe return.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Vice President Yadav expressed confidence in continued Nepal-Israel collaboration at international forums like the United Nations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ambassador Bass reaffirmed commitment to ongoing cooperation, noting that organisations monitor the welfare of Nepali workers in Israel as per agreements. \u201cSome agreements are signed, and others are in progress, which we believe will be finalised,\u201d he said, adding that he was pleased to see Nepalis succeeding after training in Israel.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
