International seminar held in Kathmandu on Xi Jinping’s ‘Global South’ vision

Kathmandu: Friends on the Cloud: Platform of Influencers Nepal recently organised an international seminar in Kathmandu focusing on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s emerging “Global South” concept and China’s governance model.
The seminar brought together foreign policy experts and participants from Nepal, India, China, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
Speakers and participants exchanged views on President Xi’s global governance initiatives, their geopolitical implications, and the shifting balance of global power. Discussions also centered on the growing role of developing and emerging nations in shaping the international order.
President Xi has consistently described the “Global South” — a collective term for developing and emerging countries — as an important force in global development and international governance. Participants noted that the concept emphasizes strengthening the collective voice of developing nations and ensuring equal representation in global governance structures.
Foreign policy experts at the event said the vision advocates equal opportunities for all nations and opposes the exclusion of any country from the right to development.
Among those addressing the seminar were Friends on the Cloud: Platform of Influence Nepal Chairperson Shobhit Upreti, Program Coordinator Manisha Shrestha, economist Dr. Sudan Oli, former Bhutanese minister Karma Dorji, Bangladeshi leader Dr. Belal Hossain, and Indian foreign affairs expert and professor Dr. Renu Rana. Speakers shared their perspectives on Xi Jinping’s Global South vision and China’s system of governance.
