Nominations of representatives for UML 11th National General Convention underway

Kathmandu: Leaders and cadres of the CPN (UML) in Nepal and abroad are engaged today in nominating representatives for the 11th National General Convention, scheduled for December 13-15.

Around 2,200 representatives are being selected from a tentative total of 667,630 organized party members for the national event. The party has reserved a quota for at least one youth representative from each federal electoral constituency.

Additionally, 45 representatives will be chosen from provincial committees, around 1,000 from parliamentary constituencies, 47 from special district committees, 81 from the Dalit community, and 40 from trade unions.

According to party rules, 354 representatives from the organizing central committee will automatically be eligible to attend the Convention. Moreover, 29 representatives from the Central Discipline Commission, 30 from the Audit Commission, 25 from the Election Commission, and 25 from the Advisory Council will also automatically participate, bringing the total number of automatic representatives to 464.

Rajendra Gautam, head of the UML Central Department of Publicity and Publication, stated that the Central Secretariat, in its November 1 meeting, decided that representation should be based on parliamentary constituencies.

Under this provision, for every 1,200 organized members, two open and one female representative will be selected.

The process of choosing representatives is currently underway accordingly. General Convention reps elected unanimously in Taplejung and Dolakha Meantime, 12 representatives have been unanimously elected from Taplejung for the Convention. According to election officer Raj Kumar Chudal, those elected reps are Dipen Pomu, Ghanendra Maden, Anant Sawa, Kailash Rai, Gyanu Lawati and Chhatrapati Pyakurel have been elected towards the open category while Ranamaya Gurung, Meena Kedem, Pramila Khanal and Tika Subedi are to attend the national gathering from the women category.

Gopal Neupane has been elected as youth representative and Buddhiman Pariyar from the Dalit community. Similarly, the CPN (UML) Dolakha has unanimously elected the delegates to participate in the party’s 11th General Convention, the party’s district committee announced through a press conference in Dolakha today.

Those unanimously elected representatives are Nara Bahadur Shrestha, Bharat Bahadur KC, Ishwar Pokharel and Dabal Pandey towards open category while Shanti Kumari Tamang, Urmila Thami and Sharada Rana towards women quota. Bishal BK has been elected as Dalit representative and Laxman Gubhaju as youth representative. A total nine representatives have been elected from Dolakha.
