Astronomical knowledge to be enhanced with policy decisions

Kathmandu: Minister of Social Development of Bagmati Province, Hariprabha Khadgi Shrestha, has said that the provincial government will take policy decisions to broaden astronomical knowledge.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the 3rd International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics held on Wednesday, she pledged that the Ministry will work to promote astronomical knowledge to increase the intellectual capacity of students.

Stating that the science division of the ministry will work on astronomy in collaboration with organizations related to this subject, she said that people should be taught about astronomy from the school level.

This is the first time in Asia that Nepal hosted the Olympiad, usually held in Europe. A total of 21 groups from 19 countries participated in the Olympiad organized by the Nepal Astronomical Society.

President of the society, Suresh Bhattarai, informed the media that 100 students from different countries came to Nepal to participate in this competition.
